The graduate thesis of our alumnus Marko Mitrović titled “Designing and Implementing Web Applications in Psychological and Counseling Services” describes the application of the latest web technologies and programming templates following the design process with the use of agile methodology.
The solution he devised is among the first of its kind in Serbia and the application of such a system at national level would be of the greatest importance. A centralized application would thus ensure cheap and simple maintenance.
Application that facilitates the work of psychologists and school counselors
Psychological and counseling services are a major part of each school institution, and Information Technology High School – ITHS is no exception. These services keep huge amounts of confidential data, and currently used information systems are unable to adequately provide authorized access to homeroom and other teachers.
The most common problem is the fact that data stored in the system by a psychologist or a school counselor should be visible only to them, which is why the system is often discarded or used sparingly. In addition, records of student interviews are commonly stored on paper, in notebooks, etc. The newly introduced information system solves this problem, and more importantly, provides a high level of security in storing sensitive data students divulge to their school psychologists and counselors.
Analyzing the entire work process of the psychological and counseling services, the application would improve the efficiency and centralize the storage containing the history of interviews between the employees of this service and students.
Implementing the application in practice
After a certain period of implementation of this web application, we would establish statistics about the reasons for seeking an interview with a psychologist and/or school counselor, and thus gain insight into the records of problems students create or face during a certain period of their life, and or/region, as well as other criteria.
Apart from the implementation in education, this application could be successfully implemented in other business entities which possess elements of the psychological and counseling services.
Although the project presented and designed as part of a graduate thesis has not been launched yet, ITS alumnus Marko believes that his solution would greatly contribute to a more efficient and easier implementation, as well as improve the systematic nature of the process and data protection.
During the development of the graduate thesis (requirement analysis, design, implementation and software solution testing), Marko relied solely on the knowledge acquired at ITS, which refers to the complete software development lifecycle – from design to implementation. He emphasized that studying at ITS provides one with all the knowledge necessary for software development, thus completing the process from an idea to the final software product.
