Live streaming and the Video Archive have helped ITS position itself as one of the leading educational institutions that uses the best resources to prepare students for a successful career.
The digital world, which makes products, services and information one click away, has expanded to the realm of education, particularly in the past few years. The previous school year, in which classes were organized differently due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, largely depended on the Internet, computers and other digital devices. Without them, an entire generation would be denied a substantial amount of information and knowledge.
Streaming as an addition to traditional classes
For years, ITS has used modern technology in teaching. Therefore, it had no problems adapting and implementing distance learning easily and efficiently during the state of emergency. One of the highly successful methods is livestreaming all lectures and practical classes in the undergraduate and master’s programs. Over the years, this method has proven to be crucial for students who are unable to physically attend a class.
What does a live stream look like?
Scheduled lectures are preceded by technical preparations where computers, cameras, and mics are checked to make sure all the requirements have been met. The students listen to the lecture, follow the presentation, ask questions and make comments. Everything is live streamed so that students who are unable to come to school can follow instruction on their computers and mobile phones and keep track of the assignments and projects set by their professors. This enables students to not only follow lessons as the semester progresses, but also to perform practical tasks and assignments on the computer (e.g. writing in the Java programming language or editing photos in Photoshop).
Video on Demand
All students who are unable to follow a stream during a particular time slot, or those who wish to revisit a class, can access the Video Archive and find the class they are interested in. Students can watch, pause, and rewind videos whenever required. This helps them organize their time and obligations, revise, and find answers and solutions for particular tasks and problems. How many times have you wished to revisit a particular segment of a lecture you hadn’t understood?
Video on Demand is a frequently used service in many fields. Recently it has been used more in education, but is often charged additionally. At ITS, this service is a part of the basic package. Once added to the archive, all videos are available to students for a duration of three years and are located on the Distance Learning Platform. This option is particularly appreciated by students who came to ITS from other schools where they didn’t have the possibility to follow live streams and use the Video Archive. Most students attending the ITS master’s program have jobs or other private and family obligations, which is why an archive of classes is a truly valuable feature. This is yet another confirmation that introducing modern technology in teaching has plenty of benefits.
The Video Archive has long been a standard at ITS. We can assess its application from different perspectives. For professors, it’s an opportunity to enrich the class with numerous examples, tasks, case studies, etc., so as to fully use the time available and provide students with access to the materials at all times. For students, the video classes facilitate learning, provide 24/7 access to the content, save time and allow them to organize their school and personal activities better. Finally, these features have helped ITS become one of the leading educational institutions that uses top-quality resources to prepare students for professional development, which is one of our school’s goals.
Quality is imperative
Live streaming and the Video Archive have elevated the quality of teaching at ITS. With this level of technological excellence and experience in live streaming, we had no problems implementing classes during the state of emergency. During the pandemic, in situations where only the professor was in the classroom with no interaction with students, the school made sure the quality levels were upgraded using other services such as video consultations and so on.
The challenges we all face show how ready we are to overcome them. ITS has shown that they are ready to do their best regardless of the circumstances. We have achieved excellent results using cutting-edge technology, and there is no greater proof of this than our students’ achievements.
