On May 19 and 20, the first regional Mapathon was held at the Information Technology School. Fifty-five participants from three countries took part in the 30-hour event. The event, designed to resemble a hackathon, was organized by ITS and HERE Technologies.
The main task at the event was to come up with the best software solution for intelligent cars.
“The Mapathon event was designed in a manner that allows ITS students to compete with their peers from the region, working on interesting problems regarding geographic information systems, which may be used in the near future as a software solution for intelligent cars”, said Bojan Ristić, a professor at ITS.
ITS student wins prize and trip to Poland
After 30 hours of interesting work on this challenge, Aleksa Aranđelović, a third-year student at ITS, was chosen among the best for his interesting solution to the set task.
“This was a really interesting event. It provided us students with an entertaining way to learn something new and come up with solutions that will be used in reality”, said Aleksa.
One of the prizes at the event was a trip to a camp in Poland, which will gather young people from Eastern Europe. There, they will exchange their experiences regarding education and all potential competitions, all the while having a great time with their peers.
During the breaks, the participants had time for sporting events, a programming workshop and the Einstein’s Riddle game. This kind of experience is invaluable for ITS students, as it allows them to display their knowledge, skills and talents, and see how they rank among their peers from other IT schools in the region.
“I was drawn to this challenge because it’s different and links the things I like – cars, locations, maps and software. It’s an interesting experience; it lasts 30 hours, it’s very useful and fun”, said Stefan Cekić, a third-year student at ITS.
