Course objective

Introducing the students to the concept of types of management information systems (MIS) and the role of IT engineers in their development and implementation. A special emphasis is placed on defining, explaining and designing the phases of business intelligence, which implies that they are modeled based on business system management requirements, resulting in the creation of data storage, data integration, multidimensional data analysis, data mining and creating reports. These procedures are necessary in the contemporary business environment, where management information systems are used to increase profitability, market share, improve the service provided to clients, as well as improve the day-to-day business activities.

Course outcome

The students will learn the characteristics of, and differences between, online transaction processing – OLTP and online analytical processing – OLAP, the basics of business intelligence, the fundamentals of creating data storage and the ways of modeling activities in business systems using tools such as Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools (Data Warehouse, data integration, the ways of applying multidimensional analysis and creating reports), Data i Web mining, the types of decision support systems, the fundamentals of artificial intelligence, the purpose of neural networks and intelligent agents, the basics of Big Data, the creation of expert systems, the characteristics of executive information systems and the fundamentals of ERP system.
