Course objective
The students should gain the necessary knowledge on potential network security deficiencies and master the basic skills for increasing security, as well as the applicative knowledge and skills that can be used for the purpose of enhancing computer network security.
Course outcome
Students can assess the security aspects of networks and plan strategies for increasing their safety. They can also apply security enhancement tools and implement security protocols on networks.

- Security goals: data protection, data integrity, authentication
- Cryptographic algorithms: protection using public and shared keys
- Key exchange mechanisms
- Digital signature
- Security aspects in different network levels, protocols and mechanisms for the protection against specific types of attacks
- Application of security protocols for data protection, data integrity protection and authentication (Kerbos, SSL/TLS, IPSec,VPN, PK)
- Application of firewall tools for system protection. System vulnerability evaluation
- Computer viruses
- Security of wireless computer networks
