Comtrade Information Technology School is pleased to announce that the prestigious 14th thematic CERN School of Computing was held for the first time in Belgrade from June 9 to 15. Organized by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), this event represents a significant step in strengthening the cooperation between ITS, Comtrade, and CERN, highlighting Serbia’s growing importance in the global scientific community.
Outstanding educational initiative
The CERN School of Computing provided students with advanced knowledge and practical skills in scientific computing. During this week, students had the opportunity to learn from leading CERN experts, exchange experiences with peers from around the world, and enhance their technical abilities. This year’s school theme – Scientific Software for Heterogeneous Architectures – emphasized the importance of advanced educational programs in the dynamic field of scientific computing.
Comtrade as a distinguished host in Serbia
The ITS campus, located within Comtrade, was chosen for its comprehensive facilities, including modern learning and working spaces, advanced computer laboratories, a café, a gym, and a sports hall. These exceptional conditions provided an ideal environment for intensive learning and collaboration, recognized by CERN in selecting ITS as the first host of the summer school in Serbia.
An international event with a rich support program
This year’s summer school brought together over 30 participants from 13 different countries, including China, Russia, Italy, Spain, India, the Netherlands, and many others, while Serbian students participated in this summer school for the first time. In addition to the academic program, participants enjoyed various sports activities and social events, such as a treasure hunt at the Belgrade Fortress and a visit to the Nikola Tesla Museum.
Significance of collaboration
Alberto Pace, head of IT education at CERN, emphasized the importance of educational engagement in Serbia and the continuation of positive relations between CERN and Serbia:
“The collaboration between CERN and Comtrade has been ongoing for several years, with achievements in data storage to process all data from LHC experiments made in cooperation with Comtrade. This is a long-term collaboration, and this engagement in schools and education in Serbia is part of the continuation of our good relations between our organization and Serbia as a country.”
This summer school further established ITS as a leading educational institution in Serbia, dedicated to providing high-quality education and promoting scientific excellence.
