English professor at ITS, Tamara Precepa, participated in the recently held conference “Recharge Your ELT Batteries”, whose theme was enhancing English language teaching and introducing new teaching ideas into the classroom.
The conference took place on February 25 at the “Mona Plaza” hotel in Belgrade and was organized by the Regional English Language Office (RELO) within the U.S. Embassy.
This unique event consisted of a total of 9 interactive workshops led by outstanding ELT instructors from the United States, totaling 18 of them. Participants had the opportunity to exchange experiences with their colleagues and introduce new, fresh ideas into their classrooms through these workshops. The conference was aimed at high school and college professors.
The goal of the workshops was to stimulate critical thinking among students through engaging activities
Participants had the opportunity to choose three workshops from the following options: “Media as Storyteller”, “Teaching Grammar Communicatively”, “Using Music to Teach English”, “Writing Activities for All Stages of the Writing Process”, “Critical Thinking and Media Literacy”, “Getting Creative with Authentic Sources”, “Teaching Strategies for English in the Natural World”, “Getting Students to Speak”, and “Teaching with Authentic Materials”.
Through each of these workshops, professors were able to expand their existing teaching activities, enhance the use of media in teaching, and, above all, through interactive exercises in the “Getting Students to Speak” workshop, adopt ways to encourage students to speak in the classroom, develop critical thinking skills, and learn grammatical rules in an interesting way.
